In 2001, thru the leading of the Holy Spirit, Brother Bob started a new endeavor, prison ministry in the Philippines.
Into a holy hodgepodge of spiritual superstition, traditions and denominational discord generated by prison populations who live in conflict, confusion and spiritual desperation brought on by guilt, shame and ignorance, in living conditions that belie belief, comes the eternal Gospel. The power still works as it always has in prisons everywhere nurturing the hearts of the repentant and those honestly seeking.
Yet it is not quite so simple. Lest the blind lead the blind in a climate where the Gospel is Two miles wide and a half-inch deep is the additional challenge of broadening spiritual understanding among the personnel we send to prisons who share God's Truth. This is complicated by cultural gaps, stereotyping and even suspicion. Yet at every level, for those who respond in trust and obedience, the power of Jesus Christ is still there in his Name and Truth according to his promises. What a blessing to see the lights come on over and over again.
BBO, who recently brought to the Philippines what it began in Wisconsin some 25years ago, has been blessed with growth from one prison to more than 40 in most of the major population centers of this ancient archipelago. Prison conditions belie belief yet since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart and even though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
